A 25-year-old apprentice, Wisdom Azubuike, has been arrested for “belong” to a syndicate, which is said to specialise in using ‘master keys’ to open vehicles and stealing items found in the vehicles.

The suspect, a native of Obokwu Obidi in the Oguta area of Imo State, told Northern City News that he was an apprentice drug vendor, adding that a friend, Christopher, introduced him to the crime when he informed him that he needed money to set up a patent medicine store.

He said, “Christopher gave me a phone number in Onitsha and when I called the fellow, who I eventually met at the Onitsha Central Motor Park, he introduced me to this business and suggested that I should operate in Katsina.

“We normally use the special fabricated key to open car doors or booths and make away with the items found inside. But I was caught after I had used the key to open a Toyota car in Katsina.”

The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State, Besen Gwana, however, said that Azubuke belonged to a syndicate, adding that efforts were on to arrest his accomplices.

He said, “On November 3, 2017 at about 23:30 hrs, the command busted a gang of car thieves/ snatchers and arrested one Wisdom Azubuike, aged 25 years of Obokwu Obidi, Oguta LGA of Imo State whom with others now at large, used a fabricated key and opened the door of a vehicle, Toyota Carina ‘E’ with registration number AA 4335 FN, valued N950,000 belonging to one Emmanuel Okeke of Havana Hotel, Katsina.

“The suspect was nabbed when he wanted to move out of the hotel with the vehicle. Investigation into this case is ongoing.”
