Benue State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning, Mr. David Olofu has revealed how government officials lavished over N500 million within the last two years on local and international traveling.
The commissioner, who disclosedthisinMakurdi, the state capital, while addressing journalists, recalled that N185,989,250.85 was spent in 2015; and N346,400,831.86 in 2016; while N40,183,600, amounting to N572, 573,682.71 was said to have been spent on traveling between January and February, this year, respectively.
The commissioner further said that 15,300 pensioners are in government pay roll, while the state workforce had reduced to 17,090 from 19,000 workers inherited by the Samuel Ortom’s administration from the previous administration.
In her remarks, the Chairman of Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), Mrs. Mimi Orubibi Adzape added that the state generated N8.4 billion in 2016 as Internally Generated Revenue.
While given the breakdown of the revenue generation, Adzape said that revenue from Pay as You Earn (PAYE) was N4.7 billion; MDAs (N3.5 billion), Road Taxes (N236 million), Direct Pay Tax (N406 million); consultant returns N223.9 million and others N24 million.
